Honorary Member of CERN - Former Director for Accelerators and Technology

    Frédérick Bordry (born in 1954, French) was the Head of the Technology Department before being appointed as CERN's Director for Accelerators and Technology. 

    In 1978, Frédérick Bordry graduated with a PhD in electrical engineering from the Institut National Polytechnique in Toulouse, and went on to gain his higher doctorate in Science, from the same institute in 1985.

    Bordry’s early career was spent teaching and conducting energy conversion research. Then he moved to Brazil, where he spent two years as a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Florianópolis). In 1981 he was appointed senior lecturer at the Institut National Polytechnique in Toulouse.

    Bordry came to CERN in 1986, joining the group working on power converters for the Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP) before moving in 1988 to the Operations Group as an engineer in charge of the Super Proton Synchrotron and LEP.

    In 1994, the year that the LHC was approved, he joined the Power Converter Group as the Head of Power Converters Design and Construction for the LHC. He was appointed leader of the Power Converter Group in 2002, a position he held until December 2008.

    In 2009, Bordry was promoted to Head of the CERN Technology Department - responsible for technologies specific to existing particle accelerators, facilities and future projects – where he has remained until 2013.

    From 2014 he acted as the Director for Accelerators and Technology, where he is responsible for the operation and exploitation of the whole CERN accelerator complex, with particular emphasis on the LHC and for the development of new projects and technologies. He was re-appointed CERN’s Director for Accelerators and Technology.

    Born in London, Dr. Cary Adams has a BSc Honours degree in Economics, Computing and Statistics from the University of Bath, United Kingdom and a master’s degree (with distinction) in Business Administration. He is a Harvard Business School Alumni having attended the school’s Executive General Management programme in 2003. In 2009, Dr. Adams made a career change, moving from the management of international businesses in the banking sector to become CEO of UICC based in Geneva. UICC unites and supports the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity, and to ensure that cancer control continues to be a priority in the world health and development agenda. Its rapidly increasing membership base of over 1100 organisations in more than 170 countries features the world’s major cancer societies, ministries of health and patient groups and includes influential policy makers, researchers and experts in cancer prevention and control. UICC also boasts more than 50 strategic partners. Dr. Adams and his team focus on global advocacy, convening the cancer community (through World Cancer Day, the World Cancer Congress and the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit) and running significant global capacity building projects that address global cancer issues. Dr. Adams also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the NCD Alliance, a coalition of around 2,000 organisations working on non-communicable diseases, which include cancer, diabetes, heart, respiratory, mental and neurological diseases. He is also an advisor to the City Cancer Challenge Foundation and the McCabe Centre for Law on Cancer. In 2014, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations from the University for Business and International Studies in Geneva and in 2015, an Honorary Doctorate in Health from Bath University in the UK. In May 2015, Dr. Adams was awarded ‘CEO of the year’ at the International and European Association conference organised by the Associations Network

    Responsible for Compliance & Regulatory Topics, representing IPCAA in the IFPMA Ethics & Business Integrity Committee and member of ETHICS (International Society of Healthcare Ethics and Compliance Professionals).

    Christian-Claus Roth has been employed at Novartis Pharma since 2001, in different roles of increasing responsibility. After his studies in Business Administration he started his career with the International Pharmaceutical wholesaler GEHE Pharma Handel GmbH and later Celesio AG, in Germany.

    From there he moved to the Novartis Pharma affiliate in Bern, Switzerland, where he set up the congress and event department for the Swiss market, shortly later being promoted to the Global Headquarter in Basel with responsibility for the Pain and Urology Areas as International Congress Manager, with additional responsibility later for the Bone area.

    Christian now oversees the Scientific Engagement Governance focusing on the impact of external regulatory requirements on global medical event management – one of several key areas for which the team is responsible. Additionally, he regularly participates as a panel member and speaker at conferences. In July 2017 Christian was honored by 'Successful Meetings' as one of the most influential strategists in the meetings industry worldwide.

    With an academic background in economics and finance from the UCL and Louvain School of Management, Sébastien started his professional career in 2012 when he joined a Med Tech start up in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was working on the company’s development strategy on the UK market.

    Sébastien then moved back to Belgium and pursued his career in a top tier management consulting firm, when he joined Arthur D. Little’s Brussels team as part of the Strategy & Organization practice.

    Anne is working as Manager Digital Communications at PlasticsEurope, a Brussels based Pan-European association of plastics manufacturers with offices across Europe. 

    She is the interface between the Finance & Business Services department and the Communications Team. She has successfully led the creation and execution of integrated digital communication tools like the association website, intranet, campaign & event tools. 

    For 4 years Anne developed her skills as IT coordinator and GDPR data protection officer.

    Anne joined PlasticsEurope in April 1994 starting as a secretary assisting the Communications Team.

    After 20 years at the heart of the international association meetings industry at ICCA, Mathijs is now “Online Community Evangelist” at Open Social, passionately preaching about the major opportunity for associations to increase their impact by empowering their members to share year-round.

    Mathijs studied Communications Science and has a long career in the international meetings industry. He started at a Marketing Agency in the nineties, marketing exhibitions in the Amsterdam RAI before moving to ICCA (the International Congress and Convention Association) in 2001. At ICCA he took on various projects leading up to a Director Marketing role: He designed ICCA’s PR- and Social Media Strategy, centralised marketing activities, promoted all ICCA events, managed Online Product Development and Software Projects, and managed the implementation of a CRM system.

    Having been involved in “professional community building 1.0” at the heart of the international association meetings industry as Director Marketing with ICCA, and always believing in the potential of online communities for associations, his mission is to contribute to the transformation of community building for associations. In February 2021 he partnered up with Open Social on this mission. 

    Open Social is #MadeToShare: It is an open source community platform by the community, for the community. Open Social has mastered the art of sharing, serving some of the biggest international mission-driven NGOs as clients, including the United Nations and Greenpeace, and has won several international awards.

    Mathijs also combines the Rock ‘n Roll life with family life, being a weekend Rock God, playing guitar in local pubs and parties with a semi-professional cover band plus a second band composing and playing original Americana style music, while also being a family man and a proud and happy join-in childish dad with 2 kids.

    Kai is volunteer President of Brussels based ASSOCIATIONWORLD Foundation, taking a holistic approach towards the development of associations and association professionals, building a global association community movement. 

    Kai serves as the CEO of Best Buddies EMEA region and as Head of Development of the International Sport and Cultural Association (ISCA). He drives developments at several International and European associations in the field of disability,- medical,- new technology,- sports and education and is the co-founder of the Geneva International Association Forum (GIAF), the Brussels International Association Forum (BIAF) and the Nordic International Association Forum (NIAF).

    At idloom, Samy is responsible for certifications and online education software. His main objective is to strategically and continuously adapt and improve idlooms software, as traditional events and continuous education continue to change during the pandemic.

    Samy started as an account manager in October 2020 and quickly became Product director for Events & Trainings at idloom. He has an MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the KU Leuven.
